Reading a result

How to interpret a published result in the context of its event and protocol.

Read the whole record

A rank belongs to a specific event, discipline and category. Start with those fields before comparing participants or performances across records.

  • Rank shows the published order within that result table.
  • Participant and country identify the credited entry; a team marker indicates a team entry.
  • Performance preserves the value and notation supplied with the record.
  • The protocol is the linked publication supporting the result table.

Check context before comparing

Rules, categories, course layouts and scoring formats may differ. A higher number is not necessarily comparable across disciplines, categories or events.

If something looks wrong

Check the published protocol first, then contact the event organizer with the event name, category and exact entry.
